Freshmen Year Reflection

I am finally done with my first year of college at the University of Central Florida! At first I thought of Summer B as summer camp just to ease my mind of moving to a different state, but once fall classes started I felt extremely homesick. I didn’t think I would have ended up liking UCF as much as I do now. I owe it all to my sorority, Kappa Delta, for providing me with opportunities to meet amazing people and build friendships. I joined my fall semester, but didn’t really find my place until this spring, but that was all my fault. This year, my friend and I made our New Years Resolution to go to as many events and meet as many people as possible. We did a pretty damn good job and kept our promise. Surrounding myself with my sisters and friends and exploring Orlando is what pulled me out of my “homesick funk”.

Moving to Florida was something that I have always dreaded and it still hasn’t hit me that I┬álive in the sunshine state, but I am so fortunate that I was able to go out of state for college because it has made me the independent person that I never thought I would become. I don’t have my mom and dad around to baby me anymore, I had to take steps (a lot of steps) into the real world, by myself. I knew no one moving to Orlando, but I wouldn’t have had it any other way because I was able to make this place my own.
